Stephen Klein Wellness Center

Then next phase of the journey to end and prevent homelessness took a giant step forward with the grand opening of The Stephen Klein Wellness Center (SKWC). The 28,000 square-foot facility greatly expands Project HOME's capacity to serve more people, as well as add new services by providing a sorely needed health home for homeless men, women and children, and low income residents in an area where half of the people live in poverty and almost a third in extreme poverty.

This vital project, which achieved federally qualified health center (FQHC) status is a partnership between Project HOME, Thomas Jefferson University and Hospitals, Jefferson Medical College Department of Family and Community Medicine, John and Leigh Middleton, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and Stephen Klein.

Named for its lead funder, a champion of this project for years, the SKWC will include primary care, behavioral health, dental care, a pharmacy, wellness classes and a Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA with babysitting services. The Wellness Center expands the healthcare services that Project HOME and Jefferson Family Medicine have been providing in North Philadelphia for almost 20 years.

The Stephen Klein Wellness Center is another shining example of the result of collaboration that leverages the support of both public and private funders working together to end homelessness through affordable housing, opportunities for employment, health care and education.
