Paul Strand at Philadelphia Museum of Art
Because of a long-standing relationship with both the Aperture Foundation (where Hazel
Strand bequeathed the Strand archive to Michael Hoffman's care) and the
Philadelphia Museum of Art (where we believed — as did Michael — that ultimately this should be the home where Strand's work could live and thrive)
helping PMA acquire this amazing and extremely precious archive was a goal THF pursued with determination.
The collection was acquired by The Philadelphia Museum of Art because of the faith and trust of Executive Director, Timothy Rub, as well as Director of Prints, Drawings and Photography, Innis Shoemaker and Curator of Photography, Peter Barberie, in the work's significance. All agree that this acquisition makes PMA the world's most important repository for the study of Strand's work.

The support and energy of The Aperture Foundation, Peter MacGill of Pace/MacGill Gallery and two other generous believers in the work's ultimate artistic value — Marjorie and Jeffrey Honickman and Marguerite and Gerry Lenfest — cannot be underestimated in making this dream a reality.
"As a whole, this acquisition comprises more than 3,000 prints and lantern slides, including the finest examples of every image in the Archive. Joining the more than six hundred Strand photographs already in the Museum's collections, this acquisition makes the Philadelphia Museum of Art the world's most important repository for the study of his work."
